Cadaqués sits at the foot of the Cap de Creus peninsula in the far north-east of Spain, and getting there takes a bit more planning than most Costa Brava towns. There is only one road in and one road out, and no coastal road was ever built connecting it directly along the shore. For much of its history the town was reachable only by sea or by a winding mountain road over the Coll de Perafita from Roses, and it did not have a connecting road at all until 1910. That single point of access is still the main practical fact to plan around today.
Getting there by air
The nearest airports are Girona and Barcelona. Girona is roughly an hour away and is a Ryanair hub with good connections, while Barcelona is around two and a half hours away by road. Girona has excellent air connections generally, which makes it the more convenient option if your flight schedule allows it.
Getting there by car
Driving is the most flexible way in. From Barcelona, head north on the AP7 motorway, following signposts to Girona and to França, though the France signage is in Catalan and can be confusing on Spanish roads if you're not expecting it. From the airport south of Barcelona, aim first for a ring road, or "Ronda", choosing either the Ronda Litoral or the Ronda de Dalt to connect through to the AP7. Stay on the AP7 heading north until junction 4, which comes after Girona but just before Figueres. From there, follow directions toward Roses, and once you're approaching Roses, continue following signs for Cadaqués itself. There is a car park on the edge of the village, and while you can drive directly up to your hotel, it is worth knowing exactly where you're headed before you commit to the narrow streets, since they are notably tight.
Getting there by train, bus, or taxi
Trains run regularly from Barcelona to Figueres, including a fast service on the new AVE high-speed line, and there are good bus connections onward to Cadaqués from there. A Sarbus service runs frequently up to Cadaqués from either the airport or Barcelona directly. Taxis are also an option from Girona or Barcelona airports, or from Figueres, and once you're in town, local taxi firms include Taxi Olé and Taxi Josep Giró.
